Frequently Asked Questions

1. How long does it take to complete a Canopy Tour Adventure? Canopy Plus Adventure?
Plan to spend 2 hours with us. The zip line canopy tour is approximately 1.5 hours in length plus additional time for check in, orientation, training, etc.  The Canopy Plus programs both take about 4 hours to complete.

2. What if I am afraid of heights?
It is not uncommon to have a fear of heights. Many people who have a fear of heights are still able to enjoy our zip line tour. You will be safely secured to our steel cable at all times when you are off the ground. Our professional guides are thoroughly trained in zip line course procedures, and will be with you throughout the entire course to answer all your questions and provide support.

3. How high will I be off the ground?
During the tour you will be anywhere from 10 to 70 feet off the ground.

4. What should I wear?
You will need to wear close-toed shoes (such as tennis shoes). Wear comfortable clothing, but please avoid loose clothing (no scarves, etc.). Long hair needs to be tied back. Women should not wear skirts. Dress for the weather forecasted. We do operate in the rain, so please be prepared. Please do not wear any dangling jewelry. Also, please remove all things from your pockets, such as cell phones and wallets. You don’t want them falling out during the tour. We do not have a secure place to store your valuables, so please leave valuables at home or locked in your car. EMPOWER is not responsible for property lost, damaged, or stolen during your tour.

5. Do you operate in the rain?
Yes, we operate in the rain. However, the course will be closed if there is lightening activity in the area. We will also close for high winds. If we know in advance that we will be closed, we will try to contact you at the contact number you provide to us when you book your tour. If your tour is canceled due to weather, you can either rebook for another time, or we will refund your tour cost.

6. How safe is it?
All adventure activities done above the ground carry certain inherent risks. We have taken numerous steps to mitigate these risks. Our course was built to exceed ACCT professional building standards. Our guides are professionally trained and our equipment is very high quality. The course and equipment are inspected daily.

7.  How long is the zip line course?
The zip line course is nearly a 1/2 mile long, consisting of 5 zip lines, 2 adventure sky bridges and new for 2010, a multi-vine traverse and a cargo net obstacle.  There are 9 stations in all.

8.  Who can and cannot zip?
The zip line canopy tour is designed for use by participants of average mobility and strength, and who are in reasonably good health. No children weighing less than 58 pounds will be allowed to participate in our zip line tour. Children between the ages of 8 – 15 must be accompanied to the facility by an adult. Approximate weight range for all participants is between 58 to 285 pounds. Please call if you have any questions regarding weight limits.  There is a 200 foot nature walk in the tour on an unpaved trail at an incline of about 12%. Each participant must be able to complete this walk. It is approximately as challenging as climbing four flights of stairs. For additional information see Qualifications for Participation.

9. How can I pay?  What if I don’t want to pay by credit card?
You can pay by cash, check or credit card.  For reservations of up to 4 individuals, payment in full is required at the time of reservation.  For reservations of 5 or more, a 50% deposit must be made in order for us to hold your spots.  The balance is due prior to the start of your canopy tour.

10. When do I need to arrive for my tour?
You must arrive at least 20 minutes prior to your scheduled tour time. This will give you enough time to check-in and prepare for your tour.

11. Are reservations required?
Reservations are required.  Each one of our tour groups is limited to 12 participants and requires two guides. To enable us to provide you with the best experience, we require a reservation for all participants. If you do not have a reservation we will do our best to accommodate you on a space available basis.  If you do not show up with the total # of people you have reserved spots for, you are still responsible for paying for those spots.

12. How do I get the pictures my guide was taking throughout the tour?

The digital picture files are collected at the end of each tour and uploaded to our website within a day or two following your tour.  You can find the photos under the “Download Photos” heading near the top of the website.  Navigate to the day and time in which you participated and there you will find your specific canopy tour’s photo album.  Additionally, the EMPOWER office will send each customer an email with the link to your specific photo album.  The pictures are free for downloading, printing, etc.  To download more than one picture at once, sign up on the Photobucket website by providing your email address and a password.  The guides make every effort to take several shots of each person throughout the canopy tour experience.  However, safety takes priority over picture taking and this may mean that picture opportunities are missed.  In addition, pictures may be impacted by limited visibility, weather conditions and group cooperation.

13.  How long do the pictures stay posted on the website?

Typically, the albums stay on our website for about a month.  We suggest downloading your pictures very soon after your visit to EMPOWER because we only have a certain amount of storage space for the large digital picture files.  We make no guarantees as to the length of time your group’s pictures will be posted on the website.

14. How much should I tip my guides?
Our guides are professionally trained to ensure that you have an educational, enjoyable, and memorable experience. The tipping guideline is the industry standard of 15-20% per person.

15.  What if I have more questions?
